Phonics and Reading

In Foundation Stage and Keystage One we teach children using the Little Wandle Phonics Scheme. Chidlren take home three books over the course of a week. One book is a ‘reading practice’ book which they had read three times at school with an adult. They read this at home to parents but does need to be returned after two days. The second book is a phonics book which contains only sounds or tricky words which they have been taught at school. This book can be changed as required. the third book is a book to be shared with an adult at home. In Year Two, the children, when assessed to be ready,  move onto fluency books which they read at school and home. They also have a free choice book which is age appropriate to take home.

In Keystage Two, children move on, when they are ready to library books from our Keystage Two Library. Some children will have a colour ‘book banded’ book to read at home, until they are ready to choose a book from the library.
