Collective Worship
Collective worship at Alconbury Church of England Primary School reflects the broad traditions of Christian belief. We are a church school and our Collective Worship is Christian in nature and based on our Christian foundation. In these special times of worship we explore the Christian Values of responsibility, friendship, trust, courage, generosity, wisdom, forgiveness, respect, compassion, thankfulness, creativity, justice, humility, truthfulness, hope, peace and service using Bible stories to guide us. Parents do have a legal right to withdraw their children from an act of worship, should they wish and need to inform the school of their wish to do this.
We have regular visitors who also lead Collective Worship at school. such as our local vicar ‘Reverend Fiona’ from our church who leads Collective Worship weekly. Other clergy from the local Baptist and Methodist churches who are friends of the school lead worship each half term. We are proud of our Christian nature and commitment to daily Collective Worship.
At Alconbury C. of E. Primary School all pupils take part in a daily act of collective worship which may be in whole school, key stage or occasionally class groupings. Collective worship at Alconbury School reflects the broad traditions of Christian belief. We have a group of children who are our ‘Collective Worship Council’. They plan Collective Worship a few times a term based on the current Christian Value.
The act of collective worship is closely linked to our Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural (SMSC), Religious Education (RE) and Personal Social Health Education (PSHE) policies. It provides opportunities to reflect and explore Christian, personal, spiritual and moral issues. We also talk to the children about Couragous Advocacy and use the Paddington Postcards UNICEF scheme to talk to the children about helping others across the world.

Thursday | Songs of Praise - Jane Watts and Kathryn Day | Songs of Praise - Worship through song and a chance to reflect and discuss the hymn words, their meaning and how they link to the key Christian Value. |
Friday | Head teacher - Jane Watts | Celebration of achievements both in and out of school. Teachers select pupils who have upheld/ demonstrated the key Christian value. Reflection on the week. |
