Mental Health
Good mental health and wellbeing
Mental health is a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.
(World Health Organisation)
At our school, we aim to promote positive mental health for every member of our staff and pupils. We pursue this aim using whole school approaches and specialised, targeted approaches for those children who need extra support. We have an adult team and a children’s team who work hard to ensure we promote good mental health and wellbeing. We complete yearly wellbeing surveys to monitor whether what is working well and what we can improve.
In addition to promoting positive mental health, we aim to recognise and respond to mental ill health. By developing and implementing practical, relevant and effective mental health policies and procedures we can promote a safe environment for all of our children.
If your child has any worries or concerns or is feeling anxious about anything, we make sure they know they can discuss this with any adult in school. In addition, they may also choose to attend one of our weekly ‘Treetops’ sessions, which is a group we run to guide children through any social or emotional worries they may have at school or at home.
If you feel your child needs additional mental health and wellbeing support, initially you may want to talk to your child’s class teacher or a member of the SLT, you can also complete a self-referral to the MHST (Mental Health Support Team) or school can make a referral to the MHST who will give advise on the best route to take for you and your child.
Please never feel you are alone, there will always be someone in school you can talk to and together we can find the right path for you and your family to find the help you need.
