Who’s who? – Alconbury Primary School

Mrs J Watts

HEADTEACHER (Co-Head with Mrs Mulcrone)

Alconbury School is my first headship role and what an amazingly special place to take on this exciting opportunity. Prior to headship, I was Deputy Head for nine years and over my 20 years of teaching I have enjoyed teaching both Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils. I always refer to Alconbury School as our “Alconbury family”. This family extends to include all of the staff, pupils, parents, governors and so many members of the wider community that all make valuable contributions to our school. Every day at Alconbury I learn something new from somebody and most often it is from our pupils.

Mrs H Mulcrone

HEADTEACHER (Co-Head with Mrs Watts)

I have now worked at Alconbury Primary for over tenyears. It has been a pleasure to be part of the ‘Alconbury Family’ and to get to know all of our wonderful children, families and staff. I have many roles within the school such as leading English with Mrs Watts and we are also the Designated Leads for Safeguarding. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, swimming, walking my whippets ‘Stanley’ and ‘Doris’ and spending time with my family.

Mrs S Clitheroe

DEPUTY HEADTEACHER AND SENDCO

I have been part of the Alconbury family for a number of years now. I started at the school covering PPA when my children were very young and soon had the pleasure of ‘job sharing’ with Mrs Watts in Year 2. During my teaching career, I have worked and lived in Hong Kong and have had many different roles within school. In addition to my Deputy head and SENDCo roles, I am part of a team leading mental health and well-being for adults and children in school. I am also one of the safeguarding leads. My own children, who are now adults themselves, still keep me very busy but in any spare time I have I like to keep active. I enjoy running and walking with our dog, I am also a keen gardener and love meeting up with family and friends.

Mr C Hawkins

TEACHER YEAR 6

I currently teach Yew Class (Year 6) and I am also the PE and MFL subject leader across school. I have also begun the process of implementing a ‘careers-related programme’ across the school. I am extremely passionate about sport and enjoy running our football, tag-rugby, cricket and athletics teams.

Miss H Tagg

TEACHER YEAR 5

I have been teaching at Alconbury School since September 2020, having previously worked here under various different roles. I lead Maths and Art for the school and l am looking forward to developing these this year. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and spending time outdoors with my friends and family.

Mrs S Bhamra

TEACHER YR4 - Monday-Thursday

I started at Alconbury Primary in January 2020 after working in a Junior School for six years. I am loving being in Key Stage Two and feel so proud watching the children grow and gain confidence each day. When I am not in school, I am mostly kept busy by my two children – we love going on adventures together and exploring new places. I also enjoy being in the kitchen trying out new recipes and having friends and family over for dinner.

Mrs E Metcalfe

TEACHER YR4 - Friday
HLTA - Wednesday - Thursday

My adult journey in education started In 2002 when I was a Governor and volunteer in an infant school in Peterborough. Following 14 years in Cambridgeshire Police, I went to university to study Education and Criminology. I have had various roles in schools in Peterborough, including TA, Intervention TA, Class Teacher, HLTA, Assistant SENDCo and Family Liaison Officer. I came to join the Alconbury Family in 2019 as an HLTA in KS1 and support in Yr 2 during the mornings as well as leading several interventions across KS1. I cover teacher’s PPA in Years 3 & 4. I am also teaching all day in Year 4 on Fridays and am loving it! In my spare time I love walking with my husband, taking part in Clubbercise and Fitness Pilates sessions and adore reading.

Miss Leach will be joining the Alconbury family to teach year 3 in September 2026

Mrs K Day

TEACHER YEAR 2

I have taught at Alconbury School since September 2016, having previously taught in Gloucestershire and London. This year, I am looking forward to teaching in Year 2 as well as continuing to lead our weekly whole school singing assemblies. In my spare time I like going for walks with my husband and baking (when I have time!)

Mrs C Mawhinney

TEACHER YEAR 1- Monday - Wednesday

I have been teaching at Alconbury for several years now. Whilst studying for my degree I specialised in Early Years and taught in Reception for 11 years. I then went on maternity leave to have my son and returned to teach in Year One 3 days a week. I lead PSHE and feel that a child’s personal, social and health education is an integral part of their schooling and future. I also set up and run Treetops. Treetops is a group that offers social and emotional support for all children on a weekly basis.
In my spare time I love spending time with my son, family and two cats. Music is a big passion of mine and I love nothing more than attending live gigs. I also enjoy reading and have recently returned to playing netball in a local league.

Mrs K Cawley

TEACHER YEAR 1 - Thursdays & Fridays

I joined the staff at Alconbury Primary school in September 2025 after working, most recently, in a Reception/Y1 class at Wilburton Primary. I am enjoying life in Year 1 seeing the children’s knowledge and skills develop. When I am not in school, I enjoy walking my dog, baking and (sometimes) knitting. I am also developing my skills as a gardener. At the moment I am a bit of a novice, but it’s always good to be learning new things.

Mrs M Payne

TEACHER RECEPTION CLASS

I joined the school in February 2015 and am currently teaching the Foundation Stage class. I have been teaching for many years, predominantly in Early Years and Key Stage One. During my career I have had many responsibilities including SENDCo, Early Years/Key Stage One leader and I was part of the Senior Management team. At Alconbury, I have just taken up the role of RE Subject Leader which is a new and exciting challenge that I am looking forward to developing further. In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym and swimming; spending time with my family and friends and going on holiday to hot destinations!
